West Northants Woodturners who meet at Weedon Village Hall have bagged another trophy for their cabinet with a win at the Tudor Rose Woodworks Show held at Daventry Leisure Centre. After a heart-stopping wait while the results had to be recalculated the club saw itself move from ‘silver’ to ‘gold’ position and carried off the Show Winner trophy for a second year running. Committee member, Mick Denton said, “This was a great event and a fantastic result and we are proud to be recognised like this amongst an excellent woodturning community. It’s a testament to the skill and hard work of our club and committee members.”

The club has about 50 members of varying skill levels from absolute beginners upwards and they meet regularly on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 7.00pm to 9.30pm in Weedon Village Hall.

Asked about the Weedon club meetings Mick replied, “As a club we try to encourage turners to improve their skills and also to be more involved with the events that the club organises.” He added, “Our usual meeting format is for a guest turner, or one of our members, to demonstrate their skills whilst entertaining and informing the audience.”

The club also holds regular “Hands On” meetings, where members are able to take part using one of the club’s lathes to gain practical experience. Meetings also include a drinks and biscuits break and on the first Wednesday of the month the club have an open competition where members can show their recent work and compete for the ‘Turner of the Year’ prize.

Mick said, “We are always on the lookout for new members, whatever their experience, and we are renowned for our friendliness and warm welcome.”
